I took this picture my first visit in 1998. I wonder how much it has changed since then... I've been back several times but I can't find a decent comparative picture to use. The last time I was there I noticed a lot more vegetation, large elk herds and the dome in the middle of the crater was a lot larger. On the back side of the mountain ( you have to drive a totally different direction to get to it) is Ape Cave... a tube cavern that was formed by lava flows, they are a mile to two miles long and unlighted...One day I would like to explore it.....bucket list....
